Why Pluto Is No Longer A Planet?

=> INTRODUCTION

Our Solar System which consists of Nine planets

(Mercury,Venus,Earth,Mars,Jupiter,Saturn,

Uranus,Neptune And Pluto) And a Sun.

But , after August,2006 the farthest planet from Sun excluded from the Planets Family and categorised as a Dwarf Planet.

=> PLANET AND PLUTO - REASONS WHY PLUTO IS NOT A PLANET ?

Before understanding "Why Pluto Is Not A Planet Anymore ?" , First, we need to understand "What Is Planet?"

The word 'Planet' is derived from the Greek Word "Planetes" Which Means "Wandering Star".

According to the International Astronomical Union (IAU) There are three criteria which defines a full-fledged Planet :-

It must orbit the Sun.
It has sufficient Mass To Assume hydrostatic Equilibrium (Nearly Round shape).
It has cleared the neighbourhood around it's Orbit.

Pluto Basically does not satisfy the third criteria to be a Planet.

=> RECLASSIFICATION OF PLUTO

After 1992,Pluto as a planet was questioned due to the discovery of various similar size bodies or object in Kuiper Belt.For Example, Eris in 2005.
It Compells the IAU to define the term "Planet" in August,2006 during their 26th General Assembly.
A particular definition is decided And this definition excluded the Pluto from Planet family and Categorised as a dwarf Planet.

=> INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT PLUTO :-

Pluto was discovered by an Astronomer Clyde Tombough 18th Feb,1930 at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff.
The Name Pluto Was proposed by the Venetia Burney, a Eleven years old school girl in Oxford, England and for this she received five Pound.
Pluto completes the one revolution around the sun in 248 years ( According to Earth Years ) .It's Very Surprising that Pluto still not completes it's one revolution.
The Pluto Is In Kuiper Belt.

=> TERMINOLOGY :-

1. DWARF PLANET :-

=> A celestial body that :

Orbit Sun.
Have enough mass to assume a nearly round shape.
But hasn't cleared the neighbourhood around the Orbit and it is not a moon or satellite.

It is third condition which differ a "Planet" and a "Dwarf Planet".

2. KUIPER BELT :-

=> A Doughnut Shaped region of icy Bodies Beyond The Orbit Of Neptune.

3. INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION :-

Founded In 28th July, 1919.
Headquarters = Paris,France.
A Recognised Authority for assigning designation and name to a Celestial Bodies and any Surface feature on them.
Main Objective => Promote and Safeguard the Science of Astronomy In all aspects through international corporation.
As of 1st August, 2019
=> Individual Members - 13701
=> National Members - 82 Represting their Respective Country.
India Is Also The Member IAU.
